Childhood is a unique and special time for creative activity.
Many established artists including Pablo Picasso have spoken passionately about the childlike mindset of true expression–free of pre-conceptions and expectations, children enjoy a unique perspective when it comes making art.
The joy of art in its’ purest form.
I have always been a creative thinker which lured me into the arts at a young age. I have explored many forms of art from woodworking to jewelry to textiles and more. I have a BFA in fine art with a concentration in light metals from the Boston Museum School. I studied art history at Oxford University and traveled with the Parsons School of Art and Design to Africa to learn indigo fabric dying, lost wax, traditional jewelry making and pottery. While living in In San Francisco I studied textile design while managing screen printing shops for over 10 years. Six years ago I relocated to Austin with my husband and two children where I got busy right away selling printed and embellished baby clothing in some of Austin’s local boutiques. Gradually things led me into an art instruction position at Primavera Montessori teaching k - 2 grade. I offer summer classes in my home studio. In my spare time I make art of my own. I enjoy bringing art to children in a natural way. Using proper materials in combination with clear demonstrations of various traditional art processes I try to educate and inspire the kids in a fun environment.
If I am not spending my time preparing for a class, or volunteering at my children’s school you will find making something creative. Lately I have been know to paint murals,do mosaic work, and even house paint. But my biggest pleasure comes from printmaking in my studio. All those years screen printing has drawn me to deconstruct the art. I guess I got bored with traditional methods and instead of using a screen I have discovered materials like, bubble wrap, corrugated card board and other packing materials to print with. I still have a long way to go with exploring these methods of printing but have a look at what I have come up with so far.
