Hobbies
I printed shirts for Mrs. Sydes kick ball team at Zilker. Feel the sting!
I’m going to be building this page to showcase some of the work I do outside of my classes. Because, in addition to being a teacher, I am a working artist who is continuously experimenting with new ideas, new mediums, and new techniques. I have worked on commission pieces, community projects and personal endeavors for myself, friends and clients.
I specialize in print making, painting, and mosaics and I am excited about sharing these works here on my page.
Here are some photos of a mosaic I did recently at Primavera Montessori School where I teach art to the elementary grades.
Zilker Elementary Mosaic
Hanging this four piece mosaic was harder than it looks. the pieces had to line up just rite. Thank you Steve Stratacco and Houston for their help.
Grouting went smoothly with help from Houston.
This is the final piece! I dont like the grout line in the center left from the adjoining backer bords. But now I have learned that for next time.
Just helping out to raise some money for Zilker’s Arts In Ed Committee.
Workin The Swap
I was working the screen printing again at the Zilker clothes swap last week. As usual it was a great success!. What I mean is that I am not surprised that there are so many clothes in the world that we could all be trading and recreating clothes for a long time before we would have to shop for new ones. Hu interesting. At the end of the day we still filled three truck loads of clothes to be distributed to different organizations. I still need new jeans I think I must of put on some extra pounds this summer while stuck inside beating the heat?
So happy to announce that my 3-5 year old class is filling up. Location is at Christ Workshop on E. Monroe Str. ( no religion required)
I spent the morning laying out a curriculum for young artist. With lots of exploration for pure little minds including lots of tactile work, Texture, Line, Shape, Color, Cutting, Gluing, Stamping, Building and more. There will be so much pleasure in watching these young minds discover some of these new mediums while learning about the elements of art.
Go to www.futurecraftcollective.com for more details and to sign up.
As one of the co-chairs of the Arts in Education committee at Zilker elementary I was able to execute the event the “Z” with the help from parent and teacher volunteers. The night included donated art works and 10 local artist booths. This is a picture of one of my Rockin T-shirts I sold at my booth. Check out more shirts of mine atwww.BlackSheepPrints.com
Primavera Kinder students got to paint today! January and February are focused on learning about famous artist. This week we talked about Andy Warhol. We made art that looks like Warhol’s “Flowers”. When finished these flowers will hang in The art show in April.
Fist using a wide brush to color the paper, then a medium brush to add a secondary color and finally a pencil to add the texture marks that make it look like grass. Students were curious as they watched the paint mix and move around to get results. After the paint dried we cut out paper flowers and arranged them on the paper and glued them down.
Andy Warhol “Flowers”
This lovely free style screen print was made by Maxine. We learned a lot in my one day screen printing camp for kids over the holiday break. This is my favorite piece by far. Look for more screen printing classes this summer if you missed this one.
Armadillo
Sales were slow at the Armadillo. But if was fun being part of of the show. My friend Andrea yes she has the same name as me, so graciously allowed me to put my shirts in her booth. Thank you Andrea.

My shirts will be for sale at the A.M.P. outdoor market Saturday December 5th 10am-4
Also at the Armadillo Christmas show at the Austin Convention Center.
Mosaic Bar Top
As a crafty artist I have various talents working with different mediums. This mosaic project was a referral from my friend Julie. The client had liked the work I did at Zilker Elementary School.
planningIn the planning phase I drew several sun motifs to get just the right one.

One of a kind bar topThis is a unique bar top that is sure to be a conversation piece at any back yard party. Enjoy!
Make Robots
I decided that today was going to be the day that I go to Habitat For Humanity. And the kids are coming with me! Lots of people have told me to go there and now I know why. No I do not need doors. I actually was looking for tiles for a mosaic project. Wondering through the aisles we saw many interesting things. The kids had lots of questions and suddenly i noticed Lex picked up a piece of metal tubing (for dryer vents?) that he had to have. My first instinct was really.. you have to have this THING this piece of accordion tubing?? yeah mom we could make something out of this. Yes we could. Yes we could. And we decided on robots instantly.
Lucia my 5 year old made this one.

Ugly Dolls

Can you tell which ugly doll Lex and i made?
This is going to be a great way for me to communicate with Primavera families and everyone else taking my Home Studio Art Camps. Stay tuned while I get this organized.
